Hello Friends and Neighbours,
As I reflect on this journey, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for your trust and belief in me. Serving as your Ward 2 City Councillor is an honour I will carry with humility and unwavering dedication.
Since the election, I have been busy transitioning into my new role. The process has included orientation, the swearing-in ceremony on November 20, committee meetings, the first regular business council meeting on November 27, and budget deliberations on December 2 and 3.
What the Council Has Been Working On
The work of our council has already begun, and I want to share some key updates:
- Winter Navigation and Warming Centers:
At the November 27 meeting, we approved $200,000 to support Winter Navigation and Warming Centers at St. Mary’s Parish and the Indian and Métis Friendship Center. - We’ve heard your concerns about snow removal on residential streets. On December 8, the City of Saskatoon activated a residential streets snow-clearing blitz to improve street mobility and safety.
- 2025 Budget Deliberations:
During the December 2 and 3 budget discussions, we approved the 2025 budget, which includes a mill rate property tax increase of 4.96%. For the average homeowner, this equates to an additional $9.14 per month.
Key Budget Highlights:
- Increased Support for Policing: The Saskatoon Police Service received a $1.64-million budget increase.
- Enhanced Snow Removal Budget: An additional $500,000 was allocated to the snow removal budget, bringing the total to $18 million for 2025.
- Fire Safety Enhancements: Two new fire inspectors were approved to serve the STC Wellness Centre on Fairmont Drive.
To My Volunteers, Donors, and Supporters
This journey wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible people who walked by me every step of the way.
To my incredible volunteers:
You were the heart of this campaign. From knocking on doors to making phone calls and sharing our vision through social media, your tireless efforts inspired so many. You didn’t just campaign; you built relationships, created conversations, and reminded everyone we met that their voice matters. I am profoundly grateful for your hard work, passion, and commitment.
To the donors who supported us:
Your generosity and faith made this journey possible. Your contributions enabled us to spread our message across Ward 2, empowering more people to join our movement. This victory is a testament to what we can achieve together.
To my family and friends:
Through the long days and late nights, your unwavering support reminded me why I took this step. Your encouragement gave me the strength to persevere, and I could not have done this without you.
A Vision Beyond Politics
This campaign has always been about more than politics. It’s about embracing the diversity that makes Ward 2 and Saskatoon unique, fostering inclusion, and building bridges across our community. Together, we’ve shown that focusing on what unites us can create a brighter future for everyone.
To those who voted for me and those who didn’t:
I am here to serve all of Ward 2. I am committed to listening, learning, and ensuring every voice is heard. Together, we will continue this work not just in city hall but in every conversation, every neighbourhood, and every opportunity to make a difference.
Looking Ahead
As I navigate this new role, I am eager to work alongside you and embrace the opportunities ahead. This is just the beginning of our shared journey, and I am confident that, together, we can achieve great things for Ward 2 and Saskatoon.
Thank you again for your trust, support, and belief in our shared vision for a brighter future.
With gratitude and hope,
Senos Timon
